The models indicate a clipper system will pass through Virginia along the I-64 corridor with a corresponding upper level cold pool over an area of surface temperatures nearing 70 degrees F. That would indicate the potential for surface-based convection and perhaps a few thunderstorms with small hail, and that seems to jive with the SPC’s Day 2 convective outlook. However none of the three WFO’s in Virginia have anything about storms in their forecast discussions, which I find curious. I’ll go out on a limb and state that I expect a few storms in Central Virginia out of which we’ll see at least one or two small hail reports. Whether I actually venture out to chase will depend on what I see on radar after lunch tomorrow…
