This radar image shows a very nice severe-warned (hail) cell just north of Warrenton that is the end of a convective line associated with a cold front traversing the Mid-Atlantic. Earlier this afternoon I was slightly tempted to jump in the chasemobile to set up a chase, but I had already checked the models and conditions weren’t really conducive to severe weather…not much shear or instability present. (The SPC seemed to agree with my assessment of the situation.) So I bagged the idea and had dinner with my son and his wife while this particular cell went severe. That’s okay tho’, since I would have had to intercept it somewhat east of Warrenton which would have plopped me into the residuals of the Northern Virginia rush hour. Maybe next time?
