Yesterday marked one month from our return from the second Hokie Stormchase trip.  While it was a very busy 3+ weeks with a lot of mileage under our belts the urge to continue chasing the convective monsters of the Plains remains.  The collective opinion of the trip leaders is that we would much rather chase the northern Plains – Nebraska and north – to avoid the everpresent chaser congestion that occurs further south but this year’s pattern forced us into less desirable areas.

However if next year’s pattern is anywhere close to resembling this year’s I could be easily tempted into taking a late June / early July trip out to the northern Plains.  This Day 2 SPC convective outlook is typical of what has been occurring out there so far this summer:
