Social media buzz in the chasing world regarding this week’s potential in the Plains and Midwest is reaching epidemic proportions. But right here in Virginia chasing may also be pretty decent starting with a short wave passage Tuesday afternoon. Along with hefty bulk shear values and dewpoints >60 the 12Z run of the 4 km NAM spit out this simulated reflectivity for 8 pm Tuesday evening:

0Z reflectivity Tues evening

That could very well spell out a late afternoon / evening chase in the Piedmont.

Then Wednesday conditions ramp up further with well over 1000 j/kg CAPE predicted ahead of a wedge front pushing in from the coast. Bulk shear values also look decent as this 12Z GFS forecast graphic illustrates for 21Z Wednesday:

And if the GFS can be believed at 132 hours out Friday may also hold some chasing potential.

Thus it’s time to recharge electronics and make plans to head out in pursuit of convective activity!!
