There may be a relatively local chase opportunity today but the enduring overcast is firmly tempering my enthusiasm. Unless the ceiling lifts or the sky partially clears any storms will be tough to see even if they do go up.

Tomorrow, however, is a different story. SPC has most of Virginia firmly in a Marginal Risk category as a cold front plows eastward:

day2otlk_1730Having just run thru several model outlooks there does appear to be a decent chance at scattered storms in my chase area tomorrow. Instability and shear values look better tomorrow than they do today.

Meanwhile here’s a peek at an August 10th 2008 wall cloud over Orange county VA. I followed a very nice storm that went thru several cycles that afternoon:
