Headed to Bedford county this afternoon amid admittedly slim hopes of catching a garden variety storm firing along the ridgelines. Plenty of updrafts were evident but nothing happened so I headed back to the barn for dinner.

Now this:1933 reflectivity

One lone cell moving SSW with tops to 40,000 feet and hail likely. I’d have been hard-pressed to guess this one would fire out over the Piedmont this evening.

Meanwhile the next decent chase opportunity looked to be Friday (6/3) with a cold front barging across the state. However both the NAM and the GFS are showing the boundary over the I-95 corridor by noon. Eastern VA chasers may have a shot at something but not me.

Sunday looks to be the next chance at something.
