For today’s edition of “How to Keep SDS at Bay During the Winter” I picked a photo from a chase way back on June 24th 2006. I actually intercepted four separate storms that day while weaving through King George, Stafford, and Spotsylvania counties. Being so long ago my blog account is sans pictures since I was referencing them from a location that I no longer use (although I still have the photos on a couple of hard drives).

This is one of my favorite chase photos and is of the underside of a shelf cloud that has already passed through King George county. Thus I was inside the “whales’ mouth” when I snapped this shot looking eastward.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The mysterious features and ominous lighting under these clouds are always eye-catching and this one was especially notable.
